Explosion hits Eid prayer ground

The explosion reportedly went off at about 8am today, July 17, 2015, while residents were preparing to go for prayers.

A bomb blast has occurred at the Eid prayer ground in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital, emerging reports say.

“It happened at about 8am. Now we are being asked to return back home. Those that had gotten close to the Eid ground said many people were affected,” a resident identified as Abdulmalik told Premium Times.

“I have not gone to the site yet myself, but I surely heard the loud blast. Those coming from the area said it was a bomb inside a Keke NAPEP that exploded,” another resident said.

“I can see security agents and medical aid workers heading to Gwange (site of the blast) now,” he added.

No official casualty figure from the incident has been released.
