``The dealers are now complaining that when they come to buy tyre, they look for the date of manufacture.

``And I feel fulfilled that Mr President has allowed this to happen.

``I think we are on the winning side with Nigerians; and I am seeing that level of compliance and cooperation by Nigerians for this.’’

Oyeyemi expressed determination of the FRSC to ensure that the current awareness permeates every part of the country before embarking on enforcement.

``We are going to commence enforcement soon but I just want to finish with the enlightenment; the awareness is high now but we want to ensure that we cover the whole country before we start enforcement.

``Even though the Act gives us the power to do that, we also consult with the stakeholders and Nigerians. I won't fine you, I will impound your vehicle. Instead of fining you, use the money to go and buy a new tyre and fix, that is the direction I am going".

He ruled out fines for offenders but insisted that defaulters will be forced to buy new tyres for their impounded vehicles.
