Court remands plumber for allegedly biting neighbour on the head

Usman, who resides at Masaka, is facing three-count charge of assault, causing grievous hurt and criminal intimidation.

A criminal in handcuffs

Salifu told the court that on May 28 at about 9.30p.m., the accused asked him to give him his (Salifu’s) phone that he wanted to make use of the torch light.

The complainant said he later observed that the accused attempted to run away with the phone after making use of it.

Salifu added that when he approached the accused to inquire why he failed to return the phone after making use of it, Usman attacked him and bit him on the head.

He said that the accused almost killed him, but for the intervention of a pedestrian who assisted him.

Salifu said that Usman later went to the police station and gave them false information that led to his arrest and detention without investigation or prosecution.

The complainant said that the act of the accused contravened section 268, 241 and 397 of the Penal Code.

The accused however denied the allegations levelled against him, saying he never attacked Salifu.

Salifu’s counsel, Innocent Maagi, described the behavior of the accused as “inhuman,’’ adding that Usman initially disrespected the court summon.

Maagi urged the court not grant the accused bail; he prayed the court to use its discretion in favour of his client.

In his ruling, The Magistrate, Victor Manga ordered that the accused be remanded in Keffi prison until the next adjournment date and adjourned the case till June 21 for hearing.
