15 Nigerian states that lost pilgrims to disaster

717 pilgrims of different nationalities perished in the incident which occurred during the “stoning the devil” rite in Mina, Saudi Arabia.

At least 717 people taking part in the Hajj pilgrimage have been killed in a stampede near the Islamic holy city of Mecca

According to the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), 56 Nigerians have been confirmed dead in the deadly hajj stampede of September 24, 2015.

According to NAHCON, 15 Nigerian states have lost some of their pilgrims to the disaster.

They are:

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered NAHCON to urgently account for all the country’s pilgrims due to the emergence of conflicting reports on the actual casualty figure.
