The bomber was said to be targeting a mosque in the area but the device detonated prematurely killing him alone.

A suicide bomber who detonated an explosive yesterday, January 13, in the Kasuwan Mata area of Gombe State is the only casualty from the attack, police sources say.

The explosion reportedly occurred at about 6:50pm just as Muslim faithful were concluding Maghrib prayers.

The attack was confirmed by the police spokesperson for the state, Fwaje Atajiri who said:

“He died from the blast and his efforts were frustrated by the adequate security arrangements put in place to secure the state.”
