Ayinla, who works with Kwara State Civil Service Hospital, Ilorin, made the call while speaking with newsmen on Monday in Ilorin.

He said that such assistance would go a long way in reducing the burden from the patients.

He said that people could also visit hospitals or the Ministry of Health to know how they could support the patients, noting that such help would complement government efforts.

The ophthalmologist described the eye as one of the most important parts of the body, stressing that those that are blind still live, but those with sight enjoy life better.

He urged people to appreciate the good things in their lives by visiting the hospitals regularly for checkup to avoid sudden blindness.

Ayinla commended the free eye glasses and free drugs programme tagged “Jigi Maigida”, organised as part of activities put together to mark the golden jubilee of the state.

According to him, 5000 patients were given free eye glasses at an event that took place in Ilorin, Offa and Kaiama.

The medical practitioner noted that the Jigi Maigida free eye glasses programme was another effective way the government identified to reach out to the less privileged in the society.

Besides, the expert urged Nigerians to complement government efforts at providing healthcare services.

However, Ayinla appealed to government at levels to increase the frequency of free eye examination of patients and provide more sophisticated eye equipment in the hospitals.

The expert advised people to visit qualified doctors in the hospitals where proper drugs would be prescribed for them.
