9 yr-old Nigerian girl quarantined in India

The unidentified child was said to be feverish and short of breath when she arrived at the Cochin International Airport in Kerala with her parents on Monday, February 2.

A nine year old Nigerian girl has been placed under quarantine in India after showing symptoms of the Ebola Virus Disease.

The unidentified child was said to be feverish and short of breath when she arrived at the Cochin International Airport in Kerala with her parents on Monday, February 2.

She is currently undergoing treatment at the Ebola isolation unit of the Ernakulam General Hospital, The Times of India reports.

The child and her father had accompanied her mother to India for an orthopaedic procedure which was to be conducted at a private hospital in Kochi.

The young girl’s blood sample has also been sent to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in New Delhi to be tested for Ebola.

Nigeria recorded 20 cases of the disease and eight deaths before being declared Ebola-free by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on October 20.
