The death toll of the current Ebola outbreak is now 7,905, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Wednesday, December 31.

The end-of-the-year statistics released by the agency also show that a total of 20,206 confirmed cases of the disease had been recorded.

The latest casualty figure shows an increase of 317 deaths since the last numbers were released on December 24.
Sierra Leone accounted for the highest number of new cases but a fall in infections shows that the spread of Ebola might be slowing in the disease-ravaged country.
Sierra Leone has overtaken Liberia as the country with the most cases of Ebola and has been forced to institute stringent measures to halt the spread of the disease.
