Freed schoolgirls to meet parents Friday

The recently released Chibok girls will reunite with their parents on Friday, May 19, 2017, reports say.

This was revealed to newsmen by the Chairman of the Chibok Community in Abuja, Mr. Hosea Tsambido on Sunday, May 14, 2017.

According to Punch, Tsambido said “Many of the parents have identified their children through the photos and I was told that they are coming on Friday.”

He also said he does not know if the Federal Government will be sponsoring the trip of the Chibok girls’ parents.

The community leader said “I don’t know. What the parents told me was that they were asked to come on Friday. I didn’t ask if the government would sponsor the trip but usually, the government sponsors such trips.”

This is coming on the heels of allegation by some of the family members of the girls that their daughters are being kept in jail by the government.

The Minister for Women Affairs had earlier told newsmen that the girls’ parents will travel from Borno state to meet their daughters in Abuja.

Yahi Dwata, an aunt to one of the released girls, Comfort Bulus, also confirmed that the Federal Government invited them to come to Abuja.

There are reports that the Federal Government also barred the Chibok girls from sharing their experience in Boko Haram’s camp with their family members.
