The two rejected nominees are retired judge, Sylvanus Nsofor from Imo State and Ondo State indigene, Jacob Daodu.

The Senate reached the decision on the basis of a report presented by Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, the Chairperson of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, which screened the nominees.

According to the report, Daodu was rejected because “his responses during the screening exercise did not have direct bearing to the issues raised and were not satisfactory to the Committee’s expectation.”

The report also states that there’s an adverse report challenging the nominee’s suitability for appointment as ambassador.

According to a post on the Senate Twitter handle, the Department of State Services (DSS) filed a report against Daodu in which he was described as “deceitful” and accused of corruption.

82-year-old Nsofor, on his part, was rejected because he looked tired and frail and his responses to issues raised were devoid of details and mostly satirical.

Nsofor, during his screening on March 1, refused to recite the national anthem and argued with Senators for requesting that he do so.
