President to declare open Chief of Army Staff conference

Usman said that the conference was designed to critically appraise its activities and operations in the preceding year.

According to a statement issued by the army Spokesman, Col. Sani Usman on Friday in Abuja, the theme of conference is “Consolidating on the Gains of Counter Insurgency Operations Toward Achieving National Security”.

Usman said that the conference which was part of activities in the Nigerian army’s forecast of events was designed to critically appraise its activities and operations in the preceding year.

According to him, it will also make projections for the incoming year.

He said that in line with the theme, special emphasis and appraisal of the counter insurgency and military operations in the North-East and South-South regions, as well as other operations would feature prominently.

“The conference appraisal is aimed at making the Nigerian Army more responsive in the fulfillment of its constitutional role of protecting the territorial integrity of Nigeria and providing aid to civil authorities.

“The choice of holding it in the South-East region of the country is in consonance with COAS’ desire of moving the hierarchy of the army to dialogue with all regions of the country.

“This is to tailor security solutions peculiar to the people closely affected with their active participation,’’ he said.

Usman noted that it was in that light that “Exercise Python Dance” would feature as part of the activities for the conference.

“Exercise Python Dance, a field training exercise is designed to exercise troops in the South-East region of the country,’’ he said.

Usman said that as part of the Nigerian army’s corporate social responsibility and to further enhance civil-military relations, the Nigerian Army Medical Corps would be deployed to selected communities in the region to providing free medical services.
