Yes, the Nigerian economy is faltering. Yes, inflation has spiked to double digits and everyone living and doing business in Nigeria is feeling the pangs. Yes, Nigeria is in a recession. Yes, President Muhammadu Buhari’s foot-dragging made matters worse, but No, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) isn't the political platform to ask anyone to resign on account of the state of affairs.
Opposition party has no moral right to ask President to resign
The PDP left a nation in ruins, bled the place dry and ran a country of cronies and endemic corruption.

PDP spokesperson, Dayo Adeyeye signed off on a statement that his party should be very ashamed of. Part of the statement lamented that: “about three airlines, local and international, like some banks, have suspended operations and sent their staff on indefinite leave due to the poor state of Nigeria’s economy….there is no better time than now to make this call for the President to return the country to how he met it and quit, or right away quit for a more experienced team to take over”.
Return the country to how he met it? Return the country to a statistically-rebased one? Return the country to one where anyone close to the President, including the First Lady, had unfettered access to the public till? Return the country to one where a National Security Adviser was the de facto Central Bank Governor? Return the country to one where bombs rained in every corner of the North; with terrorists having a field day? Where Muslims marked Sallah festivities in fear and trepidation? Where mosques and churches were getting bombed every other worship day? Return the country to one where accountability and transparency was nowhere near the government’s agenda? Return the country to one where our soldiers fled at the sight of Boko Haram terrorists or tactically withdrew?
I’ve got issues with the APC’s running of the Nigerian State since last year and I’ve made my thoughts profusely known concerning those on social media, in blogs and elsewhere. Most of the problems the Buhari administration is grappling with were inherited. The PDP left a nation in ruins, bled the place dry and ran a country of cronies and endemic corruption.
Say all you want, but we are cleaning the mess the PDP left us.
“Pikin wey dey cry still dey see road ( a crying child can still see through the tears), my elder sister is fond of saying.
You don’t run a country aground for close to two decades, adorn the garb of a saint as soon as you are sent packing and mount the rostrum asking people to resign. With the plunge in the global price of crude oil, any political party would have struggled to steady the ship in the circumstances. How to go about steadying that ship may be the bone of contention. But if you had 16 years to diversify the economy and made looting of the treasury a pastime instead, please do the rest of us a favour and gerrarehia mehn!
The real wish is, may we never see the kinds of characters who make up the PDP, oversee the affairs of our country ever again!
The PDP was a shame as a governing party. It is looking more pathetic and pitiable as an opposition outfit. One would have thought the banal press statements would be gone with Olisa Metuh.
Who PDP epp?
