Appeal court denies Nnamdi Kanu bail

The court says Kanu's bail refusal was right considering the nature and the circumstances of his case.

Nnamdi Kanu, director of the banned Radio Biafra, was detained by secret police on 17 October and accused of terrorism.

The three-man panel of the court led by Abdul Aboki, agreed with the lower court's decision, sayingKanu's bail refusal was right considering the nature and the circumstances of his case.‎“The lower court has the power to exercise its discretion on the matter and the exercise of such discretion by the trial judge did not amount to denial of fair hearing to the defendants. the court held.

“The issues are resolved against the appellants. Ruling of the trial court is hereby upheld,” the court held on Wednesday, May 25.

Kanu’s lead counsel, Chuks Muoma (SAN), had filed an appeal challenging the ruling of the high court.

He had argued that the lower court was wrong to deny his client bail.

One of Kanu's lawyers, Ifeanyi Ejiofor,‎ had described his client's continued detention as a 'political imprisonment', accusing President Muhammadu Buhari of influencing judges to convict Kanu.‎Kanu is facing a six-count of treasonable felony at the high court.
