Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has appealed to lecturers of the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti who have boycott the lecture rooms over unpaid salaries, to return to work.

The lecturers embarked on an indefinite strike over two months unpaid salaries – January and February. The debt was owned by the ex-Governor Kayode Fayemi-led administration.

Speaking at the University’s convocation ceremony where about 6,807 were conferred with Degree and Post Graduate Degree awards in various courses, Fayose who was represented by his deputy Olusola Kolapo, said the lecturers should return to the classroom to avoid disruption of academic calendar.

“You can all attest to the fact that Governor Fayose is passionate about the payment of salaries and other benefits. We are begging for your understanding on this issue because allowing the academic calendar to be disrupted may not be in the interest of these students, whose parents have so much invested in,” he said.
