House of Reps grill Chief of Army staff

Speaking after the meeting, the chairman of the committee, Aminu Sani Jaji said they met with the Army chief to get first hand information on what happened on the day of the clash.

Following the public outcry about the Army-Shiite clash in Kaduna recently, the House of Representatives' committee on national security summoned the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai to the Green chambers on Tuesday, December 22,2015.

Guardian Newspapers reports that he was grilled for several hours and the meeting ended in the evening.

Speaking after the meeting, the chairman of the committee, Aminu Sani Jaji said they met with the Army chief to get first hand information on what happened on the day of the clash.

You will recall that the Nigerian Army accused members of the Shiite sect of attempting to assassinate Buratai.

Subsequently, in a bid to apprehend the culprits, according to the Army, they stormed the strong-hold of the sect, where a gun battle ensued.

Several lives were reportedly lost, and there were reports that the wife and son of the Shiite leader, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky were killed.

The Army swiftly denied killing the sect leader’s wife in a press release, saying she was alive and well.

A disturbing picture, alleged to be that of Sheikh Zakzaky, also surfaced the internet showing how the Army brutalised the sect leader.

The leader of the Shiite Muslims has constantly maintained that his members never tried to kill the Chief of Army Staff.
