Top Senator, politicians reportedly working to free ex-GMD of NNPC

However, EFCC sources reportedly said the investigation of the detainee is far from concluded.

A report by Nation Newspaper revealed that a Senator, whose name is yet to be disclosed is championing the release of Yakubu after he was reportedly picked up by the anti-graft agency

It was further reported that Yakubu is said to be keen to go home on bail and several prominent Nigerians including a Senator are working hard to get him released on bail.

“The ex-GMD is still in custody, we want him to give us the list of those who gave him the $9.8million as gift.

“We are also considering other clues which we have stumbled upon in the course of this investigation. We will grant him bail as soon as we sort out a few things.

“It is interesting that some prominent Nigerians, including a Senator, have been begging us to release the ex-GMD. But EFCC only complied with the rule of law and not sentiments,” a top source was quoted as saying.

After the discovery of $9,772,800 and £74,000 in a safe house in the slums of Sabon Tasha area of Kaduna, the EFCC has arrested Andrew Yakubu on Friday, February 10, 2017.
