DSS releases journalist arrested over links with Boko Haram

Salkida was reportedly arrested on Monday, September 5, 2016, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport in Abuja.

Ahmad Salkida

Salkida was reportedly arrested on Monday, September 5, 2016, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport upon arrival from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

“I was released in less than 24 hours without any conditions. And I wasn't arrested at the airport, I was given a pre-arranged lift, it was obvious that declaring me wanted was a misunderstanding on the part of the authorities that don't fully appreciate the role of journalists,” Salkida told BBC on Wednesday, September 7.

Salkida was declared wanted by the Nigerian Army after Boko Haram released a video showing some of the abducted Chibok girls with a terrorist.

After the army’s declaration was made, Salkida responded with a taunt and urged the army to pay for his ticket home.
