Former House of Representatives member, Abike Dabiri-Erewa has spoken out on the controversial N8.64 billion wardrobe allowanceset to be paid to newly sworn-in legislators in the 8th National Assembly.

“As an ex Rep, news of 9billion wardrobe allowance very strange to clarify Nass must officially react,” she said via Twitter on Tuesday, June 16, 2015.

“9b wardrobe allowance was never a norm By the time Nass clarifies I hope it helps,” she said when she was further challenged by a citizen on the social media platform.

Meanwhile, the proposed allowance has attracted outrage from Nigerian citizens, many of whom have criticized Senator Ben Murray-Bruce for not speaking out against it.

Bruce has, in recent times, been vocal about the need for politicians to adjust their lifestyles and in May tweeted a condemnation of lawmakers' large allowances.
