Switzerland to return fresh $320M stolen by late dictator

Over the last 10 years, Nigeria has received over $1 billion from the Swiss and American governments being sums looted by Abacha.

Representatives of the Swiss government will expectedly visit Nigeria this week to discuss the means by which the funds will be returned, according to Premium Times.

“Yes, our foreign Minister is on his way to Nigeria on Tuesday. He is coming on a working visit to Nigeria,” an official of the Swiss Embassy, Pascal Holliger said.

“During the visit, he will open the Consular General’s office in Lagos and meet with the Vice President of Nigeria and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to discuss the issue of the repatriation of the second tranche of the Abacha loot,” he added.

Funds looted by the late dictator have also been recovered from Liechtenstein, and Channels Island.
