Saraki beefs up NASS security over missing document?

The Special Adviser to the Senate President on Security, Major General Saleh Maina (Rtd), said the move was to keep security personnel at alert in the midst of the current security challenges in the country.

 

The Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki has instructed that the security in the National Assembly be tightened.

There are strong indications from some that the security overhaul, might be as a result of the missing 2016 budget.

Punch Newspapers reports that the Special Adviser to the Senate President on Security, Major General Saleh Maina(Rtd), said the move was to keep security personnel at alert in the midst of the current security challenges in the country.

Maina said “Following the meetings, it has been decided that henceforth it is compulsory for all legislators, staff and visitors to the National Assembly to wear identity tag.”

He also said “there would be training and retraining of security personnel and staff of the National Assembly as well as general maintenance and upgrading of equipment towards ensuring quick responses, communication and mobility in case of any threats in any location within the National Assembly.”

The National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is a bicameral legislature established under section 4 of the Nigerian Constitution.

It comprises of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
