Film festival appoints 7 judges for 2015 edition

The judges, according to a statement from AFRIFF organisers were carefully selected because of their in-depth knowledge of film making in Africa.

Ahead of the 2015 edition of the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) holding in Lagos from November 8th to 15th, 7 film makers and scholars have been appointed as judges.

The judges, who according to a statement from AFRIFF organisers were carefully selected because of their in depth knowledge of film making in Africa include  the new Festival Director of the Durban International Film Festival, Pedro Pimenta and Co-founder/Executive Director of Nollywood Week Paris, Serge-Armand Kouami Noukoue.

Also appointed were Director of the Cairo International Film Festival, Soheir Abdel Kader and Professor of Broadcasting and Film, Department of Theatre Arts, University of Ibadan, Hyginus Ekwuazi.

Others are lecturer of Film Production and Film Studies at the University of the West Indies, Asha Lovelace; South African film and TV producer, Teddy Mattera and head, Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos, Dr. Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika.

Speaking on the selection, Chioma Ude, Founder/CEO of AFRIFF described  the jury members as some of the best hands that have come out of Africa.

According to  Artistic Director, Keith Shiri, 180 movies  comprising 36 feature length films, 25 panorama, 27 documentaries,  58 short films, 17 student shorts  and 13 animation films will be screened during the festival.

The festival will feature activities holding at Silverbird Galleria, Victoria Island, Genesis Duluxe Cinema, Lekki, and City Mall Cinema, Onikan.

AFRIFF was founded in 2010 by Chioma Ude  to raise awareness about African cinema, its vast potentials and the tremendous socio-economic impact it has on third world and developing economies including Africa.

The festival whose previous editions held at Tinapa Resort, Calabar, Cross River State is currently in its 5th year.
