Studies show that the 'mummy brain' exists

For years, there have arguments about the 'mummy brain' with people wondering if it really exists or is just a fabrication made by mothers, this study proves its existence.

Once a woman gives birth to a child, it is very common for her to blame all her forgetfulness and shortcomings on the 'mummy brain'  to the annoyance of the husband who feels that she is lying.

However, the woman is quite right as the 'mummy brain' does in fact exist.

A recent study had found that pregnancy and motherhood has been found to permanently alter a woman's brains.

It was also discovered that many of the changes that take place for mothers are emotional changes in the brain including the regions that control empathy, anxiety and social interaction, this could explain the 'mummy brain' saying and why mothers are usually nervous/anxious about returning to work after they have had their babies.

According to Pilyoung Kim, a maternal brain researcher, "in new moms, there are changes in many of the brain areas. Growth in brain regions involved in emotion regulation, empathy-related regions, but also what we call maternal motivation."

Liisa Galea, head researcher of the recent study also adds, "pregnancy and motherhood are life-changing events resulting in marked alterations in the psychology and physiology of a woman."
