Progressive sounds, happiness, woman-worship fill up Odunsi's "Time Of Our Lives" EP
Armed with a versatility, dynamic delivery and progressive sounds, the 19 year old is on to something bigger than digital audiences, and the hope for success.
Young, talented and ambitious, Odunsi is a neo Afro-Fusion artiste from Nigeria, who is one of the leading members of the growing community of Nigerian singers who have embraced Soundcloud as a base for hosting material.
His listenership numbers are decent, with one track amassing an impressive 25,000 streams. He works as a producer, contributing to a whelming amount of sounds. He also leans towards Ghana, a country fast becoming the new home of progressive music. After gaining cosigns and praises from a number of industry tastemakers, including popular A&R, Bizzle Osikoya, he puts all of that creative spirit together for his first project – “Time Of Our Lives” EP.
A conceptually light project designed to capture the pleasures experienced by the creator of the work. A reggae-influenced beat makes for a relaxing opener, as the singer switches from mundane scenes of regular living, before linking up with confessionals on his quest for love and pleasure on Fridays.
This reggae is contrasted against the TMXO-helmed drums of ‘Shiwawu’ and the Black Magic guest appearance on ‘Lover man’. The next track offers up more EDM-backed hedonism, as Odunsi celebrates his ‘Happy hour’ with all the trappings of being in the merry zone. He does this with Okuntakinte, the Ghanaian Afro-EDM wonder kid. There’s wine, woman and song in abundance. ‘Vanilla’ freestyle hones the target to woman-worship, against a backdrop of Ghanaian synths. It extends to ‘Farabale’ and ‘Uber’s stringy R&B ballad-style expressions. The latter offers a dance as bonus, and a smart sampling of Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’.
Odunsi’s first project is a win for the young man who offers a glimpse into his abilities as a producer and singer. Armed with a versatility, dynamic delivery and progressive sounds, the 19 year old is on to something bigger than digital audiences, and the hope for success. He is the deal.
