Actress says she makes money from social media conflicts

Daramola recently made an Instagram post in response to the widespread call for the Nigeria Senate to pass the Gender Equality Bill, where she stated that men are natural born leaders, which led to an online backlash.

Nollywood actress, Foluke Daramola

Daramola, in an interview with Saturday Beats, responded to comments concerning her running with fans after she made a post about women being second to men, stating that it should be the norm.

She said, “The backlash is nothing to me, I just wanted to drive home a point. My own stand point is that of most reasonable women."

"The funny thing is that things like that increase my fan base. If there was no conflict, no one would go to my page to find out what is going on. It makes my account more active and the more the merrier for me."

"Don’t forget that I am a brand, when things like that happen, it is more money for me. It is an advantage to me. The reason I actually answered was because I wanted to create a crisis."

"When Foluke talks, everyone would want to know what is happening and that is what makes the world more interesting.”

Foluke Daramola is the founder of a non-governmental organisation called Passion Against Rape and Abuse in Africa (PARA).

This is a culmination of her experience as a rape victim, hoping to use the platform to help people like her.
