Officials have said that the death toll from the deadly disaster has crossed 5,000 and could very well reach 10,000.

On Saturday 25th April, a 7.8-magnitude quake hit Nepal claiming over 5,000 lives as at the last count, with tremors felt in neighbouring India and China.

The quake also triggered off an avalanche in Mount Everest which claimed 18 lives.

In the wake of the disaster, various nations have sent aid to the struggling nation which has said that the quake has proven to be overwhelming for the government.

In addition to the dead, the UN estimates that eight million people in 39 districts have been affected by the 7.8-magnitude quake, more than a quarter of the population.
