Can the NPP recapture Talensi seat in 2016?

BT Baba's votes represent 42.31 per cent of the valid votes cast

 

The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has recaptured the Talensi seat beating the opposition NPP and seven other parties that took part in Tuesday's by-election, certified results have revealed.

The party’s candidate, former head of the Ghana Prisons Service, BT Baba is the MP-elect having polled 10,366 representing 42.31% of the total votes cast as against Thomas Duanab's (NPP) 6,845 representing 27.94% of the total votes.

The PNC candidate Wombeoto Namailteng garnered 6,836 representing 27.90% of the total votes cast followed by the PPP which had 214 votes representing 0.87%. The GFP polled 58 votes, NVP had 93, UPP managed 49 while the IPP polled a paltry 38.

According to official figures from the Electoral Commission, total valid votes cast were 24,499, rejected votes were 882 while the votes cast were 25,381 representing 64.22% of total turn-out.

Only nine votes separated his and that of People's National Convention's Michael Womeogo Namalteng, who had the support of the Convention People's Party (CPP).

Progressive People’s Party’s Joseph Toatoba polled 214 votes while the New Vision Party’s James Bambora Doubil polled 93 votes.

The Ghana Freedom Party’s Yaro Bameezina Philip polled 68 votes while the United People’s Party’s Isaac Kungarzore had 49 votes.

Independent People's Party’s Dennis Attiah Tambil polled 68 of the valid votes cast.

The NPP won the elections in the 2012 elections beating NDC's John Akologo Tia. The seat became vacant due to the enskinnment of its Member of Parliament, Robert Mosore as the Paramount chief of Tongo.

As we head towards the 2016 general elections, can the NPP pull a surprise by recapturing the seat from the NDC which has dominated the seat since 1992?
