Car bomb kills 3 in Mogadishu

The huge explosion was followed by gunfire, a Reuters reporter said.

A file photo shows smoke from the Jazeera hotel during an attack earlier this year in Somalias capital Mogadishu, July 26, 2015.

A car bomb exploded on Saturday, December 19, 2015 on a busy street in the Somali capital Mogadishu, killing three people and wounding eight, a police officer said.

A cloud of smoke could be seen rising from the scene of the blast.

It was not immediately clear who was behind the explosion and shooting, but al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab has in the past claimed responsibility for such explosions.

The toll is likely to rise, Police Major Nur Farah said at the scene of the blast.
