20 medical workers kidnapped by ISIS

A group of more than 30 ISIS gunmen attacked the hospital while a bus was waiting to take the non-Libyan workers to Libyan capital, Tripoli.

At least 20 medical workers with the Ibn Sina Hospital in Sirte, Libya have been kidnapped by members of the Islamic State (ISIS), CNN reports.

A group of more than 30 ISIS gunmen attacked the hospital while a bus was waiting to take the non-Libyan workers out of the now ISIS controlled Sirte to Libyan capital, Tripoli.

Hospital officials say most of the abductees are from the Philippines while others are from Ukraine, India and Serbia.

The kidnapped hospital staff were trying to leave the city because of the security situation and the control of ISIS over the city, and officials believe the ISIS gunmen didn't want them to leave the city because they are the only medical team there if they needed them for the group's wounded and injured.

Sirte which lies halfway between Tripoli and Benghazi was the final major stronghold of late Libyan leader, Moammar Gadhafi loyalists and also happens to be where he was killed.

ISIS took control of the city and hospital last year.
