Company’s leadership called into question again over verifying a white supremacist

Twitter can't seem to keep itself away from getting into troubled waters.

The micro-blogging network was recently also called out over its apparent double standards as regards its abuse policies and rulesthat led women to boycott the service.

The protesters claim Twitter seemed to favor people like Trump and not others like actress Rose McGowan.

But Twitter always manages to have explanations for its actions as seen in the tweet response to Rose McGowan.

This move of endorsing a personality like Kessler is perceived by critics as being insensitive to the feelings of users of the platform, and portraying the company in very bad light.

Who is a White Supremacist?

This is a racist individual whose ideology is based upon the belief that white people are superior in many ways to people of other races and that therefore white people should be dominant over other races.

Some Twitter users are seeing this verification as an endorsement of this supremacist named Jason Kessler.

And while Twitter has paused the verification process indefinitely, the company has come out to say it’s all a misunderstanding.

A tweet from the Twitter support account says “Verification was meant to authenticate identity and voice but it is interpreted as an endorsement or an indicator of importance.”

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey apologized for the situation saying, “We should’ve communicated faster on this (yesterday)” and noting that “we realized some time ago the system is broken and needs to be reconsidered. And we failed by not doing anything about it.”

It remains to be seen if Twitter will redeems itself and regain user confidence in its leadership abilities over dealing with range of more pertinent issues that have come out of the social network, as against the less weightier ones like increasing tweet character count to 280
