Senatorial candidate promises free internet access and loans for computer village

Adeola said that he would ensure CAPDAN had a voice in Abuja particularly in bills and policies relating to ICT as their roles in creation of employment and economic development need to be harness for further development.

Solomon Adeola, the All Progressive Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Lagos West, is promising free internet access and non-collateralized loans for members of the Computer and Allied Products Dealers Association of Nigeria (CAPDAN) at the Computer Village in Ikeja if elected.

According to a press release, Adeola made this pledge over the weekend when receiving a campaign bus from CAPDAN members to aid his campaign organization.

"It is unfortunate that in spite of the over 80,000 employment provided for Nigeria and multi-billion naira yearly turnover of the ICT village there is no Federal Government presence of any sort in the village," he said.

Adeola added that he would ensure CAPDAN had a voice in Abuja particularly in bills and policies relating to ICT as their roles in creation of employment and economic development need to be harness for further development.

The senatorial candidate who currently represents the Alimosho constituency in the House of Representatives is going up against Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s Segun Adewale, an aviation executive.

Adeola said with almost 12 years cognate legislative experience, he was the best choice for Lagos West, which is the largest senatorial district in Nigeria. According to him, none of the contestants against him have "even a month legislative experience at any level."

Ikeja's computer village, which has in less than two decades developed into the focal point of computer, accessories and mobile phone trading in Nigeria, was said in 2013 to generate revenues worth of $2 billion (N300 billion).
