Wema makes Nigeria's first app-only bank official

The bank hopes to increase its 1.5 million subscriber base to 3 million by 2020 by leveraging on some of Alat’s unique propositions.

“ALAT is the bank for the future and it redefines the seamless relationship we have with our customers. This is an offering to the young professionals, entrepreneurs and students who are tech savvy and always on the move. It is an opportunity to integrate banking into their lifestyle without hassles, by offering them real value, as they desire,” said Segun Oloketuyi, MD of Wema Bank at the launch.

The bank hopes to increase its 1.5 million subscriber base to 3 million by 2020 by leveraging on some of Alat’s unique propositions. It also hopes to increase its revenue base from N54.25 billion, which it currently stands at, to N200 billion in the same time frame.

The Alat launch event was hosted by Ebuka with support from popular comedian Basketmouth. Guests were treated to a buffet and entertainment from rapper Olamide and DJ Exclusive.

As at the time of launch, Alat had about 1,500 users (Basketmouth spilled that on stage) and it will be looking to get much more in the coming months.
