Podcasting feature now available to everyone

Since 2011, Soundcloud has been beta testing it podcast services with a private group, but it has finally opened up the service to everyone.

The Soundcloud podcast service comes in multiple levels, including one free level and two paid ones. They also provide the RSS hooks necessary to publish to iTunes and get seen by podcast apps such as Overcast.

Soundcloud charges $55 per year for six hours of audio uploads per month and provides unlimited-length hosting for $135 per year. There’s also free hosting for more casual users, providing three hours of audio uploads.

Some other advantages of the platform include instant publishing to Soundcloud, which has reasonable reach, and embed tools that allow user easily share on social media, blogs and other websites.

Souncloud may also have a lot challengers in the podcast category in the near future apart from the ones it already has. Spotify might be planning to introduce a podcast section to its app. It is unclear whether Spotify will try to host itself.
