Hello and welcome to a piece of peace, your weekly dose of motivation and inspiration. Today I would like to share with you on the topic of “Undoing the Past.” If you had the opportunity to do everything all over again, what would you do differently? Would you make some of the decisions that you made at those really difficult moments? Would you still get into the relationships you did when you were say 16 years old? Would you have the same arguments that you had or would you decide to be a completely different person? Over the weekend I decided to have a horror movie marathon.

The winning movie was Final Destination. I have always been intrigued by the story line. Death chasing after a group of people but one-person inadvertently sees deaths design through a premonition, gets given a second chance and tries to make different choices to prevent the in escapable tragic end. Of course in the movie although they get the opportunity to see what will happen in the future, every new action leads to the same tragic fate. But it got me thinking. What if I was given the opportunity to relive the years that I have already racked up, would I change anything?

As I reflected on this, I began to relive each difficult moment I have ever gone through. I made a note of how I was impacted by each event and what decisions I made as a result of that particular event. After spending sometime doing this exercise, it occurred to me that, all the actions and experiences that I went through; ultimately led me a step closer to the person I am today.

Yes there are things I wish did not happen and certain pains that I could have possibly done without, but ultimately, in hindsight, things really don’t seem as bad as they were back then. Similar to myself, I know there are many people who are wishing and praying for a second chance to either correct a mistake that has already happened or completely remove an action. The wonderful thing about time is that, it is a gift, cherished only in the present. Its value lies in how well we spend it.

Mistakes happen and they will keep on happening because lets face it, you are only human. What that experience is supposed to do however, is to empower you to know better when faced with a similar trial. Unfortunately, our actions cannot be undone. The only thing we have control over is what we choose to do next.

So instead of wishing you can undo what has already happened, why don’t you make an effort to make choices from today, which you will be proud to look back on years from now. You are going through a process of change, and that change could be the catalyst you need to change your destiny for good.

And no matter what you do, always remember to be yourself, because everyone else is taken.
