His meeting with the president was announced by Buhari's Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad on Twitter.
Ahmad tweeted, "The United States' Secretary of State, Mr. Rex Tillerson arrives Presidential Villa, Abuja to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari."

Tillerson is the highest ranking US official to visit Nigeria since Donald Trump was inaugurated as president in January 2017.
