EFCC official sweats it out while counting cash hid in an Ikoyi apartment

This was disclosed on Tuesday, May 2, by Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, who is a member of the panel, while speaking to journalists in Abuja.

The money was found by agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Ikoyi on April 12 and was subsequently claimed by the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ayo Oke who said it was allocated to his agency for “covert purposes.”

The revelation led to Oke’s suspension and the constitution of the panel, which is headed by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, to investigate the incident.

“Well, you know the presidential committee that is investigating the NIA and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation is supposed to make submission by tomorrow (today),” Malami said according to Daily Trust.

“So, it is pre-emptive now to discuss anything considering the fact that one, the committee is under the chairmanship of the vice president, who is supposed to brief the president in that respect and two, the schedule for the committee’s assignment has not elapsed," he added.

The panel is also investigating allegations of corruption leveled against suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal.

Lawal is alleged to have misused funds allocated for the Presidential Initiative on the North-East (PINE).

Meanwhile, the Senate has indicted Lawal of the charges and called for his prosecution by the relevant agencies.
