Dogara to ring bell on Friday

The statement said the speaker was invited to NSE in recognition of his contribution and that of the House of Representatives in deepening the market through quality legislation.

Yakubu Dogara, Speaker of the House of Representatives

A statement issued by the Speaker’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Mr Turaki Hassan, said that Dogara would ring the bell to close activities on the floor of the exchange by 2p.m.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Dogara said in June that the House might pass laws that would compel multinational oil and gas companies as well as telecommunication firms doing business in Nigeria to list on NSE.

He said that companies in the sectors must be listed on the capital market to deepen the market, make funds available for investors and create employment.

The speaker also called for severe sanctions against fraudulent stock market players as part of measures to strengthen the market and guarantee the safety of investors’ funds.

He promised that the assembly would contribute its quota to check the drift in the sector.
