5 things Minister wants from Buhari over NNPC's boss

Petroleum Minister, Ibe Kachikwu has reportedly written to President Buhari on the activities of the NNPC boss as well as his requests.

In a letter dated August 30, 2017 to President Muhammadu Buhari, the minister lamented how he had suffered humiliation and disrespectful conducts from the NNPC Group Managing Director, Maikanti Baru.

Here are five things the minister wants from President Buhari in NNPC and the petroleum sector going forward.

1. Empower NNPC Board and save cooperation from collapse

That we save NNPC and the oil industry from collapse arising from the non transparent practices and empower the board that was inaugurated to do the needful

2. Call Maikanti Baru to order by making him submissive to NNPC board

That President Buhari save the office of the Minister of state from further humiliation and disrespect by compelling all parastatals to submit to oversight regulatory mandate and proper supervision which I am supposed to manage on your behalf

3. Allow NNPC board function in the role it was inaugurated to function

You (President Buhari) kindly instruct the GMD to effectively leave NNPC to run as a proper institution and report out along due process lines to the Board and that your Excellency instructs that all reviews be done with the Minister of state prior to your decision.

4. Reverse the recent appointments by NNPC GMD, Maikanti Baru

That to set the right examples, you (President Buhari) approve that the recently announced reorganization changes be suspended until the GMD, myself and the board have made relevant input same. This will send a clear signal of process and transparency.

5. To stop NNPC GMD from working independently

That your Excellency encourages joint presentation meetings between heads of parastatals and the Minister of State to you so as to encourage a culture of working together and implant discipline in the heirachy.
