Gov Tambuwal initiates 'Right to Education' bill

The Bill, which is the first in Nigeria, will make education a fundamental human right of all children between 6 and 18.

Governor Aminu Tambuwal

Tambuwal initiated the Right to Education Bill 2016 to protect the right to education for children between six and 18 years in the state - the first if its kind in Nigeria.

"Sokoto will be the first state in Nigeria to provide right to education, thereby bringing it in comformity with status of fundamental objective and directive principle of state policy under chapter 2 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999," Sokoto state Commissioner of Justice Commissioner, Suleiman Usman, told news men.
