Four people have been reported dead in an attack by gunmen on several communities in Ikwerre, Gokana and Eleme local government areas of Rivers state.

Punch reports that two Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members, Lekia Nzeregbara and Fred Teedom were killed at Ogale in  the Eleme LGA and Bomu in Gokana LGA respectively.

Speaking on the incident, Austin Sor, The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Gokana LGA said “On Thursday, one of the party stalwarts, a stakeholder, Mr. Lekia Nzeregara, was gunned down at Ogale in the Eleme LGA. His death is one is one of those too many to mention.

“We totally condemn that. Shortly after that, at about 6.30pm or 7pm, one of the youth leaders, Mr. Fred Teedom, who happened to be the youth leader of Bomu and the Vice Chairman of Ward 8, Gokana LGA, was also shot dead.

“I was told that those that shot him are the cult boys from that community. We also want the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to do their investigations and ensure that the culprits are brought to book.”

Reports also say that the gunmen abducted one person and killed two at Elele, in Ikwerre LGA.

An eyewitness who spoke to Punch said “A group of gunmen dressed in black attire invaded my compound in Elele at about 8pm. They came in a tinted vehicle.

“They killed two persons and kidnapped another one. They (those killed and the kidnapped) are all my tenants. I don’t know why this happened, but you are aware of what is currently going on in Rivers State.”

Meanwhile, the Department of State Security, DSS, in Rivers State   has arrested five suspects allegedly behind the abduction and murder of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Mr Sampson Worlu.
