Taxi driver gets N200, 000 bail for manslaughter

The accused drove his taxi recklessly and killed 26-year-old Afeez Adeleke in front of a church, Cpl. Abdulkareem Mustapha, said.

Court remands baker for allegedly stabbing friend to death

A 52-year-old taxi driver, Odejimi John, who allegedly knocked down a 26-year-old man, was on Monday docked at an Ota Magistrates' Court in Ogun.

He was, however, granted bail in the sum of N200, 000.

John, whose address is unknown, is being tried for manslaughter and reckless driving.

The prosecution told the court that the accused committed the offences on Jan.19 at about 9.40 a.m. at Zion Methodist Church, Oando Road in Ota.

The offences contravened Section 5 of the Federal Highway Act, Revised Laws of the Federation, 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.I. Adelaja, said the sureties should reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should evidence of gainful employment.

In addition, the sureties should provide evidence of tax payment to the state government.

The case was adjourned to March 25.
