Last week, a court sitting in Lafiya, the Nasarawa State capital rejected tenure extension application by the immediate past elected chairmen in the state.Following the court judgement, the law makers in the state advised the governor to dissolve the chairmen.

But on Monday during plenary, some members exchanged blows over the decision of Al-Makura to appoint sole administrators for the Local Governments in the state.

The fight started few hours after the inauguration of the sole administrators by Governor Al-Makura in Lafiya.Chairman, House Committee on Information, Mr. Makpa Malla, who briefed journalists, said there was division among the law makers on the appointment of the sole administrators which ignited the fight.Makpa said the appointment of the sole administrators by Gov.Al-Makura was illegal adding that the house cannot sit and watch illegality in the state.“Categorically, I want to state here that the division which caused this chaos was as result of the appointment of the sole administrators by the governor and as a responsible house in which some of us are lawyers, we insisted that the right thing must be done."“The constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria section 7 sub section 1 as amended guarantee for a democratically elected system at the local government and the constitution defined how the local government system, structure should be ran," he said.

During an emergency sitting, the faction group of five members at the house raised a motion against the leadership of the Deputy Speaker, Godiya Akwashiki, calling on him to step down. The Majority leader of the house, Tanko Tunga, suggested that members who engaged in the physical combat should be suspended. The suggestion turned the house into another rowdy session but at the end, the deputy speaker, Godiya Akwashiki, who presided over the plenary, adjourned the sitting till today Tuesday, March 5, 2016.In 2011, the state House of Assembly passed an existing law, section 3 to 14 to provide room for the appointment of Transitional Committee Members for development areas.
