200 retirees benefit from foundation’s medical outreach

No fewer than 200 local government pensioners in Kwara benefited from the medical outreach of the Mike Omotosho Foundation in the state.

Speaking at the event held at Pensioners’ Secretariat in Ilorin on Wednesday, the founder of the foundation, Mr Mike Omotosho, said the initiative was aimed at enabling the aged, especially pensioners, to access medical services.

According to him, the Mike Omotosho Foundation is conscious of the well being of the people irrespective of their status, class and creed.

Omotosho, who spoke through the Coordinator of the foundation, Mrs Sidikat Yusuf-Lawal, said the organisation had continuously impacted on the lives of the people.

The former governorship aspirant said that the rationale behind the medical outreach transcended politics.

Omotosho, a pharmacist and the governor emeritus of Rotary Club International, said the foundation was of the view that government could not solely cater for the needs of the people.

This, he said, necessitated the need for individuals and organisations to contribute their quota to the well being of the people, especially the aged and retirees.

Omotosho added that retirees deserved adequate medical care after serving the country and the state selflessly, diligently and meritoriously.

He urged pensioners to always engage in regular medical checkup to know their health status and build a healthy community.

Omotosho pledged the foundation’s commitment to sustaining the gesture in order to complement government’s efforts in healthcare delivery.

In his response, the Secretary of the state branch of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Alhaji Saidu Oladimeji, commended the foundation for organising a health care programme for retirees.

Oladimeji, who said majority of retirees were battling with different ailments,noted that the outreach would enable them to ascertain their health status.

He urged other well meaning individuals and NGOs to take a cue from the Omotosho Foundation by providing basic health care services for the people.
