833 die in swine flu outbreak

Health Ministry figures also show that 14,484 people have contracted the disease since the outbreak began.

A swine flu outbreak in India has claimed 833 lives, health authorities in the country have said.

On Sunday, Health officials had put the number of infections at 13,688 while the number of casualties was put at 812.

The worst hit state is Rajasthan which accounted for 214 deaths and 4,549 infections while in Gujarat 207 died of the disease and 3,107 people were infected.

There have also been 51 deaths in Telangana with 1,316 infections, eight deaths in Delhi with 2,241 infections and another eight deaths in Tamil Nadu.

The government has said that all necessary measures are being taken to address the outbreak, Indian Express reports.

The H1N1 flu virus caused a world-wide epidemic in 2009. It is now a human seasonal flu virus that also circulates in pigs.
