Lawmakers investigate non-payment of LG staff salaries
Members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly are investigating the non-payments of local government’s staff in the state including health workers.
This came up during plenary on Monday, June 6, 2016 following a motion by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Sunday Peter, urging the house to look into the issue as a ‘matter of urgent public importance’.
Sunday said it is not only the council staff that have not been paid for months but added that local health workers and teachers have also not been paid for several months, a problem he said the house must solve.
The Speaker, Kabiru Mijinyawa, who presided over the plenary, listed a seven member committee with the Deputy Speaker as Chairman. The committee is to submit its report within one week.
Meanwhile, the Adamawa State governor, Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla Bindow said on a Hausa Radio programme that the state will pay two months salaries backlog with assurances of settling the other two months within the shortest possible time.
