This came up during plenary on Monday, June 6, 2016 following a motion by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Sunday Peter, urging the house to look into the issue as a ‘matter of urgent public importance’.

Sunday said it is not only the council staff that have not been paid for months but added that local health workers and teachers have also not been paid for several months, a problem he said the house must solve.

The Speaker, Kabiru Mijinyawa, who presided over the plenary, listed a seven member committee with the Deputy Speaker as Chairman. The committee is to submit its report within one week.
