‘I won’t appear before Senate on Wednesday,’ Customs boss says

However, the customs boss, on Tuesday, March 21, told journalists in Abuja that he would not honour the Senate’s invitation.

Ali appeared before the upper legislative chamber on Thursday, March 16, but was walked out because he refused to wear his uniform as demanded by the lawmakers.

The Senate further instructed Ali to appear before it on Wednesday in uniform.

“Based on the advice from lawyers and briefing from the Office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice who is also a party in the suit, I won’t be appearing before the Senate tomorrow until the court decides otherwise,” he said.

Ali was referring to a suit filed on Monday, March 20, by a lawyer, Mohammed Ibrahim at the Abuja Federal High court which challenged the Senate’s right to summon the customs boss.

Prominent lawyer, Femi Falana has also said that the Senate has no right to summon Ali over issues of policy.
