NAFDAC arraigns businessman for counterfeiting

Onyenkwu's offence was that he unlawfully produced and distributed unwholesome processed food- Alomo Bitters.

 

Magnus Onyenkwu, a businessman, was arraigned before the Federal High Court, Lagos, by the National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

He was charged to court for the contravention of Sections 1 (a), 5 (a) of the Counterfeit and Fake Drugs and Unwholesome processed foods (Miscellaneous Provision) Act Cap C34, Laws of the Federation 2004 and punishable under Sections 3 (1) (a) and 17 of same Act.

Onyenkwu's offence was that he unlawfully produced and distributed unwholesome processed food- Alomo Bitters.

In his address to the court, the Prosecutor, Mr Barthlomew Simon, said “In view of the plea of the accused, I urge the court to remand the accused to prison custody pending the trial date.”

Counsel to the Accused, Mr Olusegun Akanbi, in his presentation, made an oral application for the bail of his client, which was rejected by the judge.

Though he pleaded not guilty to the charges, Mr. Onyenkwu, was remanded to prison custody by Justice Mohammed Yunusa who adjourned the case to August 20, for hearing on bail application.
