Senator bribed colleagues to reject Magu?

The Senate, on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, unanimously rejected the confirmation of the appointment of the acting EFCC chairman.

According to Sahara Reporters, Melaye and Senator Phillip Aduda, the Senate minority leader, took it upon themselves to dole out money so the acting EFCC boss' appointment will not be confirmed.

The action of the lawmakers however drew criticisms from different quarters, with many saying the government is playing games with Magu.

Reacting to Magu's rejection by the Senate, the co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) campaign, Oby Ezekwesili also said that Buhari’s administration has made a mockery of its fight against corruption.

Magu’s confirmation was rejected following a report by the Department of State Services (DSS) indicting him of corruption.

Some political observers have also asked if the President was not briefed of the DSS report before he re-submitted Magu's name to the Senate for confirmation.

Meanwhile, the acting EFCC boss has said his rejection by the Senate, will not stop him from tackling corruption headlong.

According to Senator Shehu Sani, Magu's rejection by the Senate is the result of a civil war in President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet.
