30 parents of remaining abducted students visit Obasanjo in Abeokuta

The parents who arrived at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta begged the ex-president to help facilitate the release of their daughters.

On April 14, 2014, the terror group abducted 276 pupils of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State but 57 of the students managed to escape, leaving 219 in captivity.

In October 2016, the Federal Government paid a ransom for the release of some of the girls - the terrorists freed only 21 of them.

The insurgent group released 82 more Chibok girls in May 2017 as others remain in captivity.

The parents of the remaining girls, who had arrived at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library on Saturday, urged the former president to help use his regional and global influence to facilitate the release of their daughters.

Addressing the sad parents, Obasanjo appealed to them not to lose faith and confidence in God despite their anguish.

The visit comes after the Federal Government negotiated the release of Dapchi girls, who were similarly abducted from their school in Yobe State by a Boko Haram faction.

The terrorist kidnapped 110 girls from Dapchi town on February 19, 2018, but they returned 104 of them on March 21.

It was reported that five of the girls died in captivity while the terrorists held on to one girl identified as Leah Sharibu because she refused to convert to Islam.
