Terrorists launch fresh attack on Maiduguri

The insurgents were said to have arrived in the Moronti area of the city by river early on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, but were unable to gain entry due to ditches created by soldiers around the area.

Boko Haram terrorists have launched a fresh attack on Maiduguri, Borno State following a weekend onslaught which was repelled by troops.

They then proceeded to attack Ajillari Cross, which is about three kilometres away, according to AFP.

“We were bombarded by RPGs (rocket-propelled grenades) by Boko Haram from Moronti. We all left our homes for fear of being hit inside,”Isa Mala, who lives in Ajillari Cross, said.

“It was dark so we could see the trajectory of the RPGs, which were red with heat. Soon afterwards, we saw troops in trucks moving towards Moronti and then a fighter jet also deployed not long,” he added.

“At about two in the morning it was all over but I haven’t been able to see whether there was any damage or casualties,” Kyari Bulunkutu, another resident, said backing Mala’s account.

Maiduguri has been under attack from the sect in recent times and has suffered a spate of bombings and invasions over the past week.
