The government of Switzerland has pledged the sum of US$8 million to aid in the reconstruction, rehabilitation and resettlement of communities destroyed by Boko Haram.

This was disclosed by the acting Ambassador of Switzerland to Nigeria, Daniel Cavegn while speaking in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Cavegn also revealed that his country was willing to partner in agriculture in order to create job opportunities for the many youths in the zone.
He also said that improving the economy of the zone was the key to ending the insurgency.
In response, the Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Usman Jidda Shuwa, said that the state would welcome aid from all quarters.
“Considering the situation in which we found ourselves and the meagre resources at our disposal, there is the need for foreign partners and international organisations to come to the aid of the state especially in the reconstruction, rehabilitation and resettlement of the destroyed communities,” Shuwa said.
Borno State has suffered the worst of the Boko Haram insurgency which has left many dead and several others homeless.
